Art Trail 3 and 4

Below Allan tells us about himself and what he is doing in the world of photography:

If you want your Christmas Card to stand on the shelf of your friend/loved one, way after Christmas is over - buy a card from him and it will be treasured!

The rest will head for the bin!

As Headteacher of Satterthwaite and Rusland School, I did photography as a hobby.Since the school closed in 2006, I have been able to devote more time to it and have opened a gallery/shop in Ulverston.

I began with landscape photography but I have branched out into many areas. I do people and pet portraits in the gallery, at people's homes or out in the local environment. I have done work for Lanternhouse International, English Heritage, National Youth Theatre and many other organisations. I enjoyed doing the photographs for the prospectus for Ulverston Victoria High School as it gave me the opportunity to see teachers and pupils working very hard doing enjoyable activities. Another thing I enjoy is restoring the many damaged old photos that people bring in.

One of my current projects is photographing the Hoad Monument before, during and after the renovation work which is taking place during 2009.

An enjoyable aspect of running my gallery is that many people call in and show me photos that they have taken, ask for advice, give me advice or just talk about photography. I am looking forward to many people doing this during the Art Trail.

Hoping to see you
